PowerPoint is genuinely good at what it's for: it's already on every machine, everyone knows it, and pasting a schematic straight into the ops deck is zero friction. For a one-off cartoon of a simple vertical well that will never be edited again, it's a perfectly rational choice. The problems start when the drawing has to be correct, kept current, or trusted by someone who didn't draw it.

Why the difference compounds

A schematic isn't an illustration — it's the document other people use to make well decisions: barrier evaluations, workover planning, handovers to the next engineer. The failure mode of a hand-drawn schematic is silent: nothing tells you the intermediate shoe on the slide is 400 ft off from the actual well file, or that the cement column was shaded before the CBL came back different.
